Eminem, Lose Yourself- 1 Minute Analysis

Eminem Lose Yourself music video involves Eminem readying himself to go out on stage in front of a crowd of people, his present self raps about what happened to him in the past. This music video genre is rap, it compares to other music video of this genre as it involves a someone talking about bad moments from their past life. The scenery and lighting is very dark with low lighting and there is lots of rapper movement and gestures.

The lyrics in the song suggest that he is nervous and that he doesn't want to ruin his one big chance, however he chokes when it comes to it. Eminem links with his audience as he is thought to be very cool and rebellious. Lots of people idolise him due to the fact that he is explaining how he has been victimised throughout his life through  his lyrics and this makes the audience respect him.

Eminem's name makes people relate to hard upbringings, rebellious behavior and the tough guy look as that is how people see him. He wants to portray himself as a tough rebellious guy however he tries to explain to people that he is only like that due to his up bringing and past experiences.

Eminem wears very old tatty clothes that have faded colour, he also wears a beanie and running shoes which is the type of thing homeless people would wear, this is to show the audience what he used to wear and be like in the past. The videos two locations are on a dark street and in some toilets this is another sign of poverty/gangsterism. However he wears 'bling' to back up the point of gangsterism. The fact that Eminem has kept his look really appeals to the audience as it is a look that is easy and cheap to copy.

Quick cuts used in the video link with the timing of the music and gives the music a more intense build up effect, there is one unusual shot used where the camera zooms into Eminem's eye to cut to a different shot. There are lots of close up, side on and medium shots to give the audience different perspectives of him. The over the shoulder shot and the POV shot are used to give the audience the impression that they can see what Eminem is seeing through his own eyes.

Men are displayed as very strong and masculine (gangster like)though this music video but the one shot of the woman has Eminem staring at her which is stereotypical. The video is both negative and positive as its displays men as aggressive and violent, however, it is also about Eminem trying his best to get through hard times in his life.

The moral is to make sure you seize your opportunities while they last and to try your best in everything you do. Eminem gives off the impression that he want people to learn from his experiences and to not make the same mistakes he did. He has both a positive and negative effect on young people as he is trying to make people learn from his mistakes, however, it does also introduce the world of drugs and violence to them.

I believe that this is a very simple yet effective music video as it gets Eminem point across and it is a very memorable and catchy video too. I believe that the fact Eminem is so cool and tough that he will forever be idolised by all of his fans.

Music Video Analysis- LMFAO

LMFAO- Party Rock Anthem
This music video starts with a horror film style opening as it starts with two guys waking up from comas and then going outside into a deserted city, then they find out that the music is the disease and have to play along with the dancing. The whole song is based around dancing in this video and that is what they were trying to use to make it different to other songs. It is aimed at men and women between the age of 16-25 which would be LMFAO's target audience.

The genre is hip hop/dance which is normally aimed at a younger audience. The lyrics suggest that everyone should be dancing and having a good time and this relates to teenagers who always just want to be partying. The artists name signifies and specific phrase in slang for teenagers LMFAO stands for 'Laugh My F***ing Ass Off' so it strongly relates to teenagers who use the phrase.

The artists have a very specific look of crazy colours and styles which appeal to the audience as its a new look for them. Also the artists dance throughout the video which make people want to dance too, to be like the artists. The style and dance made the song very popular.

There are a big variety of shots used in the music video such as the extreme close up the headphones in his hand to display the make of the headphones. Also in a part of the song where the music becomes very quick paced the camera cuts extremely quick causing a flickering of cuts which is unusual, however, it is very effective in this music video.

I believe that it is a good music video as the story go's with the songs lyrics and the dancing was a good idea as people would want to learn the dance so they may listen to it just to learn the dance so it targets a bigger audience, it is a different style music video to others that I have seen which makes it very unique.

1st Lesson Album Cover Analysis

In our first lesson we viewed a few examples of artists album covers, including 50 Cent and Britney spears. We analysed the covers and made apparent the fact that each of them had factors that influenced the audience. For example, how the artist was displayed, whether they were looking at the audience to draw attention to her face, or their body was in a certain pose such as 50 Cent as he looked as though he was walking towards the audience. We also looked at different picture of the same artist in this case Katy Perry to see how she was differently displayed in each of the pictures.

We also looked at different picture of the same artist in this case Katy Perry to see how she was differently displayed in each of the pictures. For example whether she was displayed and sexy, dangerous or like a barbie doll.
